Very useful article. It has been quite awhile since I last looked at the Google keyword tool. I'm in the process of going from ecommerce to adsense because frankly I enjoy writing articles, travelling, and there's more freedom opposed to being chained to an office every day.

I will most certainly keep this site bookmarked. Great job!

Alternative Clothing - Thanks for your comment. Google can be a very effective method for generating revenue on your site, but it is not always the best way.

Have you tried private advertising by approaching sites that are highly relevant to your own? I am confident that more revenue can be generated this way compared to sticking up AdSense and relying on Google.

I've had a few websites where i have tested various advertising methods and nothing i've found comes close to adsense. Plus its so easy to slap on the script and let google find the relevant ads instead of doing all the research and finding them yourself in the hope that it will be as good.

Daniel - It's always worth experimenting and trying things out; after all you never really know how things will work until you do!

You know, I've checked these tools out before, but I decided I didn't have enough traffic to start using them. Maybe I should reconsider...

Russ - Thanks for your comment. This article was talking about advertising from the publisher viewpoint, although I agree that all promotion requires careful thought and consideration. The key of course, is to always ensure you maintain relevancy.

I think that the hardest thing to do for any website is to try and promote it cheaply and effectivly. That is why Google adwords and adsense is good. It makes sure that the ads shown are relevant and therefore are beneficial for both the advertisers and the website owners.
