Great resource you have here for sure! As long as you have strongly branded your site to include the '.com' extension, you shouldn't need to worry about the other extensions. I did not over think this process and I am happy with the name. I did just look up lgbtconnect.com and it has been taken. That is the only alternative that people would type in - I think. Most people know how to spell connect. :) Another step would be to register .net, .org, etc. but I don't think that is an issue for me right now.
