Fun gadgets - You're right; it definitely does go both ways. Oh, and as for procrastination - come join the club!

Natasha - Thanks for your kind comments. It can be so easy to post like crazy when starting a new blog. I had no problems posting every single day for the first few months. After a while though, this was just unsustainable and I now aim for a minimum of three new articles each week.

Smiley - Having regular members is just the foundation you need. You have to have something to build on in order to be successful. Those regular users are your lifeblood - keep them happy and your site will be a success.

As for the emails from happy visitors - they're great aren't they? They really help to motivate you and help you realise the fact that your hard work is not all in vain.

Hirsutism - Having a to-do list is a fantastic idea, and one I strongly recommend. Just as long as you can bring yourself to actually clearing it, rather than merely adding to it, that is!

Jack - I will have to take a look at that book, it looks like Mr Covey has been stealing my ideas ;)

So true. And so much related with the words of Stephen R. Covey from his book Seven Habits of Highly Effective People - Begin with the end in mind. I think the present state and everything that we do determine the result of our future.

You are right. It is always better to think about the end result and keep going. I make a to-do everyday first thing in the morning. And gives me immense satisfaction the day I have ticked everything that was there on my to-do list.
Thinking about the end result surely keeps you motivated to work through the boring part of your work.

It's hard to stay motivated, especially when you're not saying as big results as you had hoped. I started getting a bit lazy the other day, I haven't finished the helpdesk yet. I must give myself a kick up the bum and get it done.

It feels really good once you do something right; especially when you do it for that very first time. I've installed some really advanced hacks on my phpBB, and the 'feel good factor' was....... WOW !!

It's amazing. Plus I came home from the curry house last night to a rather pleasant e-mail from a visitor, reading it really made me feel warm inside. It's great when people appreciate the small things that you do, he was telling me how impressed he is about my view on chat-pervs and dealing with them (he said he was a mod at chat-avenue).

That really helped me motivate myself today, sat in my room again chatting to visitors, old and new, keeping them in.

The room is what drags me down sometimes. Sitting in there all night to keep it going, with just a dozen regulars and one or two new visitors every hour or so.

But.. a lot of new chat sites would kill for a dozen regular chatters, and one or two new visitors every hour!

I've just started a new blog, and at the moment the temptation is to publish post after post. However, I know that I'm not going to have time to post so frequently in the future, so I'm trying to save some backup posts for that time. I think this'll work as a long-term strategy, but it's hard to resist that immediate gratification of pressing the publish button after finishing each one!

Anyway, thanks for your post Martin... I always enjoy reading this blog.

You're absolutely right. I feel good when I get stuff done, but recently, I've been VERY bad about procrastinating on some projects for several weeks, and it's actually starting to feel BAD. It's on my mind all the time even though I continue to blow stuff off. So, you can feel great for getting stuff done, or put it off too long and you might feel awful - it goes both ways.
