Wanted: Your support for online communities panel

Panel online communities

Back in April I asked readers of this blog to submit panel ideas related to online community building for a potential panel at the next SXSW conference in 2009.

Thanks to idea contributions from readers of Community Spark and the blog of Patrick O’Keefe, we came up with the following idea for a panel:

Are You Ready to Manage an Online Community?

Managing an online community is a challenge. What do you, as administrator, need to be equipped with? We’re not talking technology, we’re talking you as a person. What do you need to know, be ready for and what common pitfalls can you avoid?

I think this would be a fantastic panel which would raise some great issues and be useful and interesting for everyone involved. The panel would include myself, Patrick O’Keefe and April Burba who is the Associate Producer of Dungeon Runners, an MMORPG from NCsoft and the former Community Manager for Tabula Rasa and City of Heroes, also MMORPGs from NCsoft.

In order to increase the chances of this panel being picked, we need you to vote for it! If you think the panel would be interesting and of value to attendees (and why wouldn’t you?!?), then please pop along to the panel picker and put in a vote and a good word for us – it would be greatly appreciated.

Voting ends on Friday 29 August, so please vote now!

If our panel is picked I would love to meet up with some readers of this blog and put some faces to names. Furthermore, I think every reader of this blog would find some value in this panel – let’s just work at getting it chosen!

  3. Nicole Price:

I hope it does get chosen, but i could not vote. Did i need to register to do that?

  4. Patrick:

    Hey Ms. Price,

Yes, that is correct, you have to register.

Thanks to everyone who has voted. We appreciate your support.

    Patrick

  5. Eric Martindale:

Wow, I can honestly say I voted five stars for this panel because this single event will possibly make a trip to SXSW 100% worth my time.

There’s a lot of SEO and Social Media ground to cover, though. I think I might make the trip to meet you guys and listen to the panel (and maybe bug you with a few tough questions!)… I’m certainly looking forward to this either way.

Good luck, I’ll be directing my senior staff to vote for you guys, too.

  6. Patrick:

Wow, thanks Eric. That’s very much appreciated. Would be glad to meet you. :)

    Patrick

  7. Vexar:

As Eric instructed, I have checked this out. I hope my 5 star vote counts and assists you in getting things going.

  8. Gerardo:

It’s an excellent idea… exactly what people like me need. I just voted for it =D

  9. Patrick:

We appreciate the support, Vexar and Gerardo.

  10. Eva White:

That’s a wonderful idea. I am off to cast my vote as I type this.

  11. Martin Reed - Blog Author:

Thank you to everyone for their support. Hopefully the panel will get picked up and I can get to meet some of you.

  12. Nicole Price:

What happned about the online communities panel?

  13. Patrick:

Unfortunately, the idea was not picked up. :(

But, maybe Martin and I will put something together for Blog World Expo…

    Patrick
