I absolutely think it will add value, you can see than some sites on the web are just forums/communities. On top of that it will bring your visitors coming back for more because they feel a part of it, so in a way it is almost vital to have, not just to add value but to keep your visitors coming back and most importantly to keep a great feel for the website.

Remember you must put a forum on a website AFTER it has been established and not before.

I think a community based web site is great if you have the time, I’m running 2 blogs at the moment which I’m finding is too much. Possibly you’d need to bring in extra people to make a forum work.

Education blogger – It’s great to hear your forum is doing so well! Just make sure you maintain that momentum.

Mark – I agree that there are a number of benefits in incorpoating a community; both for the website visitor and website developer.

jew – I believe that community members are far more valuable than website visitors. It amazes me that so many advertisers penalise sites with user generated content.

i agree with you, by having a community you have a back bone of surfers to fall on. and there help in advertising is priceless.

I think community adds significant value – especially if your site has a forum, or is comment enabled. One of my sites has a forum, and it seems that it has just continued to gain momentum: the more people post, the more newer members will join and/or post. I think it makes them feel more comfortable to see other people joining in.
