I absolutely think it will add value, you can see than some sites on the web are just forums/communities. On top of that it will bring your visitors coming back for more because they feel a part of it, so in a way it is almost vital to have, not just to add value but to keep your visitors coming back and most importantly to keep a great feel for the website.

Remember you must put a forum on a website AFTER it has been established and not before.

Bill - Chef Secrets - You should never start an online community if you don't have the time needed to make it work. It's good to see that you recognise that. Good luck with your blogs.

I think a community based web site is great if you have the time, I'm running 2 blogs at the moment which I'm finding is too much. Possibly you'd need to bring in extra people to make a forum work.

Education blogger - It's great to hear your forum is doing so well! Just make sure you maintain that momentum.

Mark - I agree that there are a number of benefits in incorpoating a community; both for the website visitor and website developer.

jew - I believe that community members are far more valuable than website visitors. It amazes me that so many advertisers penalise sites with user generated content.

I think community adds significant value - especially if your site has a forum, or is comment enabled. One of my sites has a forum, and it seems that it has just continued to gain momentum: the more people post, the more newer members will join and/or post. I think it makes them feel more comfortable to see other people joining in.
